Only the Brave (2017)

“The world’s full of people taking chances.” – Eric Marsh

Number of Times Seen – 1 (24 Jan 2018)

Brief Synopsis – True story of the first group of Municipal fire fighters as they try to save their town from a raging wildfire.

My Take on it – I really love it when a film surprises me so much in ways that I never expected.

I wasn’t too sure what this film was about but the brief synopsis that I read really drew me in.

This is an amazing true story that pulls you in right from the start and doesn’t let you go because it is so thrilling and gripping the entire time.

The cast as a whole is great and I loved the way that they developed the main characters slowly so that we can understand their trajectory and eventual arc as things move along.

Josh Brolin and Miles Teller stand out among them all and we can quickly feel a connection to both of them as their characters grow through the course of the film since they both have vast differences in personally yet there always lingers some similarities between them.

The supporting cast of Andie McDowell, Jeff Bridges, Taylor Kitch, Jennifer Connelly and James Badge Dale are all great and add another level of emotion to such a great film.

We clearly get to see how heroic and sometimes thankless a job these men partake in day in and day out yet they still love what they do no matter what.

This film has a great message about unity and camaraderie which is an essential part of this kind of work because it helps the men feel something together that in turn helps them do their job even better.

Bottom Line – Great true story that builds things up so well. The main characters are developed really well that we slowly learn about who they are and how they got to where they are.  Brolin and Teller stand out and I really enjoyed the character arcs of both of them due to their differences and similarities.   Really shows how heroic a job these men undertake as they do all they can to save town after town.  The story is all about the message of camaraderie and unity which is essential in this kind of job because it helps one keep things in perspective. Highly Recommended!
