“Things happen for no reason at all, but they create opportunities.” – Max
Number of Times Seen – 1 (16 Feb 2018)
Brief Synopsis – A man madly in love with his best friend finds a way to travel back in time to the date they met in an attempt to change his relationship with her.
My Take on it – This is actually my first film watched from 2018 and I was so happy to enjoy it.
I have always been a fan of films in this genre. It’s extremely fun usually watching a character relive part of their days in order to try and create a perfect day unsuccessfully which compels them to do that day over and over.
A prime example of this (and probably the best of the genre) is Groundhog Day (1993).
This film takes a light-hearted look at a friendship between a man and woman where he wants things to leave the “friend zone”.
On the day of her engagement, he finds a way to travel back in time to the day they met and attempts to turn their friendship into much more.
The characters are all developed enough and they help make thing more enjoyable despite the fact that the story gets very predictable along the way.
The cast is great and they all fit their characters really well making the story feel even more plausible and realistic (eventhough its a sci-fi time travel story).
The thing I found most entertaining in this film is the way that its easy to see that they don’t always take themselves so seriously and are able to poke fun at the story, premise and characters along the way.
Bottom Line – Such a fun movie even if the overall premise isn’t really very original. The characters make this really enjoyable and eventhough it is quite predictable, it works really well. The cast is great and they help make this kind of story really believable. I liked how this film doesn’t always take itself too seriously and is able to poke fun at itself, its premise and its characters along the way. Recommended!
