“Love is patient, love is kind, love means slowly losing your mind ” – Kevin
Number of Times Seen – 2 (16 Mar 2008 and 5 Mar 2018)
Brief Synopsis – After serving as a bridesmaid for 27 different friends, a woman must come to terms with never being a bride herself when she is asked to once again serve as a bridesmaid for her younger sister.. who is marrying the man she herself secretly is in love with.
My Take on it – The biggest problem with most romantic comedies is that they try too hard to stick to the “formula” and instead of giving us something new and unique, we end up seeing the same story arc over and over with just different pairs of actors.
This film falls into that trap really quickly and unfortunately doesn’t work throughout the majority of the film’s runtime.
Katherine Heigl is a great choice for the lead and she does a nice job here but she has no real onscreen chemistry with James Marsden playing her opposite.
Most of the scenes that they do together seem quite awkward and make you wonder who thought to try and pair these two actors up together.
This film does have a few really clever ideas that help parts of this work, but never really hits a pi t where it feels new and fresh instead of just are hashing of so many past rom-coms.
In the end of the day though, this film has its moments that help keep it entertaining overall, but it is far from being incuding among the best in the genre.
Bottom Line – Very formulaic romantic comedy that doesn’t work more often than when it does. Heigl is great in the lead but she and Marsden have no chemistry together which makes their scenes together feel quite awkward. This film has some clever ideas yet nothing truly feels unique enough in its approach to the subject matter. Ultimately it comes off as an entertaining rom-com, but not one that would be considered among the best.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The wardrobe department reported that their initial designs for the dresses all looked too good on Katherine Heigl because of her figure, and they were hard-pressed to design bridesmaids dresses that would look bad on her. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)

That trivia cracks me up. I don’t mind a good romcom. Shame this doesn’t sound one of them.
