41 (2012)

“I cant think of what it would be like in life without the strength you get, and love you get from family.” – George H.W. Bush

Number of Times Seen – 1 (8 Mar 2018)

Brief Synopsis – Documentary that is told as a long interview with former President George H.W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States.

My Take on it – I have always been a fan of US History and the Presidency itself was always a favorite of mine.

I heard about this film a few months ago and was very happy to finally be able to see kit because it was so fascinating to me.

This is a different kind of documentary than I’m generally used to and I wasn’t sure at first what I would think.

There is no narration and it largely consists of interviews with Former President Bush as he tells his own history along with the history of the US during his lifetime.

This actually gives us a very unique perspective on history because we get to see it through the eyes of an 88 year old former President who gives us his views on it all..

It was nice to see how lucid he is with his memories and thoughts which one would suspect would not be the case with someone his age.

This film gives us a great view of US policies, politics and various historical events from one of the men who actually helped create some of them.

Some might consider his a footnote President but the fact that he was involved with the Presidents from Johnson onward says so much about the perspective that he is able to give us about history.

His roles as Ambassador, Congressman, Head of the CIA, Vice-President and ultimately President gave him the ability to be very close to numerous Presidents before and after his term in office.

This is a must see documentary for anyone who are fans of both history and the Presidency itself.

Bottom Line – Fascinating film that tells both his personal history and the history of the US over the course of his 88 years.  Despite his age, Former President Bush is quite lucid in his memories of events over his long life.  Loved the way that this film gives a very unique perspective on US policies, politics and historic events. A must see for fans of both history and the Presidency. Highly Recommended!
