“You let that guy turn us into clowns tonight. We were always small time, but we were never clowns.” – Jack
Number of Times Seen – 1 (19 Mar 2018)
Brief Synopsis – A pair of sibling piano players try to spice up their show by adding a beautiful lounge singer to the act
My Take on it – This is a film that I’m surprised that I never saw before because of its great cast.
The cast of Jeff and Beau Bridges along with Michelle Pfeiffer helps make the story seem quite realistic the entire time.
We get an intimate portrait of the behind the scenes lives of a lounge act as they try to find their place in life.
The Bridges Brothers are great together and I’m a bit surprised that this was the very first time that they had the opportunity to work together in a film.
Pfeiffer is spectacular in this film and it’s no wonder that she was nominated for an Oscar for this Best Actress for this role, one of her very best.
Her character is quite complex and she learns so much about herself over the course of the film.
The story works quite well and this comes across as a really well put together character study.
The music is great and Pfeiffer really has a great voice.
Bottom Line – Great cast helps make this film seem quite realistic. The Bridges brothers work quite well together and I’m surprised that this was the first time that they would have that opportunity to act side by side. Pfeiffer is also great here and she gets to play a pretty complex character that is trying to find herself. It isn’t surprising that she was nominated for an Oscar for best actress for this role. The story works quite well and they do a great job of giving us a character study of the life of members of a lounge act as they try to stay afloat in life. The music is quite enjoyable to listen to and Pfeiffer definitely has a voice that works really well for the character she plays. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Michelle Pfeiffer hadn’t sung in a year when she got the part of Susie Diamond. She had to practice for ten hours a day in the studio, and then took the tapes home with her to study them. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
