“Do you want to make them pay for what they did to you?” – Rebecca
Number of Times Seen – 1 (19 Mar 2018)
Brief Synopsis – A former policeman turned private detective tries to find out why the wife of a government worker was killed in a car bomb.
My Take on it – This is a film that I knew absolutely nothing about before watching it.
All I knew was that it starred Karl Urban (who I loved in Dredd (2012) and the Star Trek films), Sofia Vergara (from Modern Family) and the screen legend Andy Garcia.
This was a really enjoyable thriller which works most of the time due to a slightly complex storyline that is helped by Urban’s charisma as the lead character.
There are certain scenes that start off seeming very generic or stereotypical of the genre, but they instantly change directions to make things even more interesting along the way.
Urban is helped by his supporting characters to give us a really enjoyable film.
The dialogue is great and quite memorable in a few key scenes where thing get moving based solely on the conversations between the various characters.
This film is filled with lots of fun twists and turns along the way that help enhance the tension and suspense of it all.
This film is apparently based on a character from a series of novels and I’d be really interested in seeing on screen further chapters in this character’s life.
Bottom Line – Enjoyable thriller that works largely due to the complexity of the plot and the charisma of Urban in the lead. Some parts of the film feel very stereotypical, but then things change directions quickly to make things even more interesting. Great twists and turns along the way help to keep this quite thrilling. Urban is helped by a fine supporting cast that includes both Vergara and Garcia. Dialogue is great and is extremely memorable in a few key scenes. Would be really interested in seeing more of the books in this series made into films. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – According to interviews with co-star Sofia Vergara, this film will feature her first onscreen nudity in a shower scene with Karl Urban. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
