Kiss the Girls (1997)

“He’s Don Juan on one side and Josef Mengele on the other.” – Kyle Craig

Number of Times Seen – 2 (Cable in ’98 and 21 Mar 2018)

Brief Synopsis – A forensics detective is drawn into a serial kidnap case after his niece becomes the latest victim.

My Take on it – This is a film that I saw not long after reading the book and was surprised at how good an adaptation it was.

They do a great job keeping things thrilling and mysterious the entire time.

Morgan Freeman was a great choice to play the lead character of Alex Cross and does the character from the novels justice.

Ashley Judd is also great here and she proved with this film how engaging an actress she could be.

Unfortunetly after doing so well in this film, she was typecast in this kind of role and eventhough she did well in films like High Crimes (2002) and Double Jeopardy (1999), she never made it as a star like she had the potential for.

This film is filled with twists and turns that work almost as well as in the book and they give us a really thrilling story that constantly keeps surprising the whole way through.

There is no question in my mind after seeing all three of the movie adaptations of Alex Cross stories that this is by far the best of them.

Bottom Line – Quite thrilling mystery that works extremely well as a film adaptation. Freeman is great as the lead here and plays the character from the novels really well. Judd showed in this film how great of an actress she can be but unfortunately her early roles following this one were all in the same genre and despite her doing a great job, she became too typecast in that kind of role.  The twists and turns along the way work quite well in order to give us a thrilling story that keeps surprising.  This is by far the best of the films about Alex Cross. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When Cross first enters the Durham police station command center, he walks along a bulletin board showing photo of missing girls. As the camera tracks along the board, one eight by ten photo portrait shows Hilary Swank as one of the victims, an actress whom Morgan Freeman would go on to train in Million Dollar Baby (2004). (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
