“Tell me Gotham needs me.” – Dan
Number of Times Seen – 1 (26 Mar 2018)
Brief Synopsis – A young girl who wants to become famous starts to stalk one of the famous people on Instagram that she follows by becoming friends with her.
My Take on it – This film was made at the right time!
Social media is such a craze that it is taken for granted by most people.
This film shows some of the possible dangers of people constantly publishing their lives for everyone else to see and know.
The dangers of social media are clear and this film takes certain scenarios to the extreme in order to try and show how people need to still stay cautious.
Aubrey Plaza is great in the lead because despite the fact that we know she is an obsessive stalker, we still care about her enough to want her to change her ways once she manages to reach the fame that she seeks.
The dialogue is wondrous and is used expertly to give us so much information about the characters, their lives and of course their dreams along the way.
By taking some scenarios to the extreme, this film succeeds in creating a satirical look at the social media world .
Bottom Line – Interesting idea that shows how scary the world we live in can get. The dangers of social media are clear and this film takes some of that freedom to an extreme place yet still shows how people constantly need to be cautious. Plaza is great in the lead and despite her character being an obsessive stalker, we still want her to find a way to succeed in life. The dialogue is great here and helps to develop the distinct personalities of the various characters. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Bill Murray is listed in the Very Special Thanks section of the credits. In the commentary, Aubrey Plaza says that while she and Murray were filming A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III (2012), he gave her his dark blue sweater when she became ill. She wears it in the bank scene and the tropical restaurant scene. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)

Agree with you here. This was one of my favorite movies of last year. But I’d say that more than a warning about the internet world is – it’s more a lesson on how scary some people who USE the internet can be. Plaza was excellent (I thought she was Oscar good in this).

I’m kinda on the opposite side of this one. It was really interesting and enjoyable to watch, but the ending felt like a celebration of her craziness which didn’t sit well with me. It felt like all her ridiculous behavior was rewarded. I know it’s supposed to be a satire, and social commentary, but at that point the film undermines its own intentions.
