Did They Get it Right? – Best Actor – Oscars 2012

Here are the five nominees: (Winner in Bold)

Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook)
Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln)
Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables)
Joaquin Phoenix (The Master)
Denzel Washington (Flight)

Biggest Snub:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt – Looper (2012)

My Overall Thoughts:

This is another year where there really wasn’t any question who was going to win since Day-Lewis was spectacular and all of the other nominees should be thankful they were nominated.

My Rankings:

Acting Performances

5. Joaquin Phoenix (The Master)
4. Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook)
3. Denzel Washington (Flight)
2. Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables)
1. Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln)

Movies

5. The Master – Strange film that makes sense that it came from the mind of PT Anderson.
4. Flight – Interesting idea that is held together by a great performance by Denzel.
3.  Silver Linings Playbook – Better upon second viewing because the characters are complexly written but in a down-to-Earth way for us to understand them. Cooper, DeNiro, Weaver and Lawrence are both great here and it’s understandable why they would all get nominated because the plot is so character driven. Liked how the plot is interwoven between real events to make it seem even more genuine.
2. Lincoln – Great portrayal of Lincoln’s political genuius during a difficult period in US history. Day-Lewis is once again amazing in his role and deserves to be alone at the top with 3 Best Actor Oscars to his credit.
1. Les Misérables – One of my favorite musicals because the music is superb and the story is extremely moving and emotional. This rendition is spectacular with the entire cast doing a superb job. Jackman, Crowe, Hathaway, Baron Cohen, Redmayne, Seyfield and Bodham Carter each bring the characters to life in their own unique ways. Amazing messages about hope, love, forgiveness, trust and of course freedom ring true throughout. By far, the best film of 2012.

Do I agree with the Oscar winner? -Most Definitely!  Day-Lewis is superb in this film and was very deserving of his 3rd Best Actor Oscar for this role.

Let me know what you think about these films and my rankings!
