Number of Times Seen – 1 (8 Apr 2018)
Brief Synopsis – Following the attacks of 9/11, a highly trained special forces unit is sent to Afghanistan to try and enact revenge on Al Queda.
My Take on it – This is a film that I’ve been interested in seeing for a while because it not only depicts real life events but also has an aura of patriotism flowing from it.
When one takes away politics from battle situations and just look at the reasons why men fight for their country, things can be seen so differently.
This film highlight the way that patriotism and courage motivate soldiers as they try to find a way to heal national wounds.
The fact that these characters are acting on emotions from recent events helps us understand them even more.
Having the hindsight of 16+ years where this war has continued has somewhat muddled the real reasons for the events of the film and I liked seeing it from the fresh perspective of those days.
This also allow sus the unique ability to not judge them for what they do based on what has happened since.
The cast is great and is led by Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon who both help give off even more realism by their portrayals here no matter what happens as their characters more forward in order to find a way to try and stop future terrorism.
Bottom Line – Great story that shows the patriotism and courage of soldiers. The fact that the story is based on truth makes it all even more gripping and thrilling to watch unfold. Having the hindsight of 16+ years on the events makes us see things in a unique fashion because we cannot condemn the action yet know what has transpired since. Great cast led by Hemsworth and Shannon helps keep things realistic feeling no matter what happens along the way. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Rob Riggle plays Colonel Max Bowers, former battalion commander of the 5th Special Forces Group, in the movie. Riggle, a Marine, actually served directly under the real Bowers during the same time period the movie is based on. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
