Number of Times Seen – twice (27 Jun 2008 and 5 Apr 2018)
Brief Synopsis – A computer genius hires a stripper to spend a 3 day weekend with him in Las Vegas.
My Take on it – There are some great films in the genre of a rags to riches story where a stripper/hooker gets to spend a weekend with a millionaire in order to change her fate.
This film is not one of those because the story just meanders along instead of dealing with real issues.
This film also goes much further when showing the relationship between the characters than most movies do, but that both helps and hinders the realism of the film.
It helps it because these are natural things that will happen in such a situation but it hinders because part of the draw of stories like this are for the viewer to be able to try and imagine what will happen behind closed doors between the characters and the way it is presented here feels too gratuitous instead of realistic.
This film tries to raise the question of what love can really be but it doesn’t manage to really deliver a satisfying answer.
Both Peter Sarsgaard and Molly Parker are great actors, but after watching this film, people might question that fact since neither is really given enough of a meaty character in order to give us something that feels genuine and plausible.
Bottom Line – This film is really strange and doesn’t work as well as other films with similar themes have in the past. The story tries to be more realistic about the connections between the characters which both helps and hinders the story. Both Sarsgaard and Parker are great actors, but this film doesn’t let either of them really show their talent and it’s pretty much a waste of time watching this. This film tries to raise important questions about love, yet fails when attempting to give a suitable answer which is quite a pity.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Molly Parker did not simulate self-pleasuring for her masturbation scene – she played it for real. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
