This is my 3960th Review
Thanks to Drew of Drew’s Movie Reviews for this recommendation.
Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Apr 2018)
Brief Synopsis – Chili Palmer is back and now decided to move on to the music industry.
My Take on it – I am a big fan of the film Get Shorty (1995) and when I heard that they made a sequel to it, I was both excited and weary.
I for some reason never got around to watching it and here I am, 13 years later finally watching it as a suggestion for this series.
This film was an extreme disappointment!
It tries way to hard to try and stick to a parallel plotline like the original film yet in doing so, loses any idea of originality or freshness.
The idea to move the plotline from the movie industry to the music industry makes sense, but they don’t seem to be able to present it to us properly.
This film relies too heavily on characters and even situations from the previous film that they rehash jokes instead of trying to find something unique and creative for this one.
The result is a film that feels like a poor reboot in a new genre instead of a sequel.
What a shame! 😦
Bottom Line – What a disappointment! The first film was done so well and this one tries too hard to duplicate the success that it fails miserably. There are too many correlations between the characters and situations between the film that it feels more like a re-try instead of an original idea. The way that they portray the music industry here doesn’t do it enough justice as they were able to do with the movie industry in the previous film.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In the beginning of the film, Chili mentions how a film needs to only use the “f” word more than once in order to get an R-rating. He then uses the “f” word, the only use of it in the film, and thus, it received a PG-13 rating. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
