This is my 3967th Review
Thanks to Mutant of Cinema Parrot Disco for this recommendation.
She chose that I review a film directed by Alan Smithee (which a pseudonym used by directors when they want to have their credit anonymous).
Number of Times Seen – at least twice (Cable in the 80’s and 12 Apr 2018)
Brief Synopsis – Three medical students make waves by playing pranks on their teachers and other students.
My Take on it – This is a film that I actually recall seeing numerous times on cable as a kid and I recall enjoying it very much largely due to the silliness of it all.
Unfortunately, that same silliness is viewed quite differently 30+ years later.
This film’s plot follows a typical plotline of many 80’s teen comedies and the jokes are hit or miss here.
Nothing really feels unique about this film yet they do manage to still elicit some laughter despite most of the jokes being real “groaners”.
The cast features some really famous actors along with mostly unrecognizable ones that never amounted to much in the film world.
Parker Stevenson was great in these kind of roles back in the day and he is the most solid of the actors in this film.
I’m a bit surprised that Eddie Albert of Green Acres fame signed on for this one, but he still does a find job as the Dean of the College who wants to stop the antics of these three students at all costs.
I can definitely understand why Director Rod Holcomb would want to have his name stricken from the credits (see Trivia below)
Regardless of its ultimate silliness, this film does bring back some fun memories for me.
Bottom Line – Not as funny now as it was back when it came out. It still has its moments tho throughout. The storyline is typical 1980’s slapstick and not much feels unique here. I can understand why Holcomb wanted his name stricken from the credits. Still beings back some fun memories tho. Interesting to see some famous actors in tis film along with most of the cast that never really had their careers take off.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Director Rod Holcomb disliked the finished product of this film so much that he chose to be credited as Alan Smithee.
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
