Movies From the Hat 7 – #50 – Jay’s Pick – Pottersville (2017)

This is my 3995th Review

Thanks to Jay of Life Vs. Film for this recommendation.

He suggested that I watch a film starring Michael Shannon

“Moonshine and tranquilizer is not a good combination. ” – Bart

Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Apr 2018)

Brief Synopsis – In a small town, a local store owner is mistaken for Bigfoot as he crosses the forest in a gorilla suit.

My Take on it – This is a film that I was really interested in seeing largely due to the fact that I share Jay’s opinion that Michael Shannon also manages to help any film that he is in.

Unfortunately, he is the only good thing about this film.

The premise actually makes this film sound more interesting than it truly is and instead of watching a nice film about a quiet small town, we learn too many of the strange secrets of this town that take away from the enjoyment of watching these characters.

The story itself is extremely strange and doesn’t work at all.

The storyline keeps losing itself along the way and wasn’t enjoyable to watch unfold at all.

Things constantly get out of hand with the direction of the plot and it loses so much of its believability because things just get more and more crazy as things move along without any real closure in sight.

The supporting cast that includes Ron Perlman, Ian McShane, Chritina Hendricks and Judy Greer also don’t manage to help at all because none of their characters actually have anything interesting to do besides scream “Bigfoot” over and over.

Bottom Line – Really strange film that just doesn’t work at all.  Shannon is still good here, but the story gets too weird too often and isn’t enjoyable at all. The storyline gets too out of hand and loses so much of its believability as things get crazier and  crazier as it moves along. McShane and Perlman are also good here but no one really stands out amongst the entire cast.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This is the second time Hamilton, NY has played host to a major film production; the first being Puddle Cruiser, the first production of Broken Lizard (of Super Troopers fame). (From IMDB)

Rating –  Razzie Worthy (4/10)
