Number of Times Seen – 1 (23 Apr 2018)
Brief Synopsis – After her husband and son are killed in a bomb attack, a rehabilitated drug addict tries to find a way to cope.
My Take on it – This is a film that is so much better based solely on the lead performance by Diane Kruger.
She takes this performance to another level with her emotional performance that allows us to really see how tortured she has become.
We know from the beginning of the film that the path of a criminal and druggie has been replaced by that of a loving mother and wife and when she no longer has that, she needs to try and find a way to continue on without sliding back into her previous vices.
This story is told quite emotionally and I really enjoyed the way that they take us places that we never would have expected in order for us to get a full idea of everything that she must deal with during this terrible time.
This story feels very realistic in the way that it portrays everyday terror in the world as a universal threat to us all and not just for specific groups of people.
They also stick to the realism in their approach to the way that the survivors must cope with the loss and how difficult it can be to try and find a proper feeling of closure after such events.
Bottom Line – Really great performance by Kruger that shines throughout. We can really feel her pain as she struggles to find meaning in a life after finally finding peace. The story is told quite emotionally and I really enjoyed the way that things move in directions that we wouldn’t necessarily expect them to. Very realistic portrayal of how sudden and universal a terror attack can be and shows how survivors can have such difficulty trying to find a proper way to cope with the loss in order to try and move on in life. Recommended!
