Brief Synopsis – After failing a mission to safeguard special energy batteries, the Guardians try to avoid capture by their former clients while seeking out Peter Quill’s real father.
My Take on it – This is a film that I wanted to rewatch before eventually seeing the latest MCU film, Avengers: Infinity War (2018) in order to keep things fresh in mind.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) was my favorite film of 2014 and I watched it numerous times in a short period of time.
This film does an amazing job taking over from where that film essentially left off and jumps right into the action.
The fact that there was no need to reintroduce the characters who we are already familiar with from the previous film helps so much because it saves time and instead of rehashing old info, they just expect us to already know it all and it works really well that way.
The soundtrack of this film is just as good as in the first one and it helps kepe the storyline in a certain frame of mind while also adding to the momentum of the way the plot is presented to us.
The action scenes in the film are lots of fun to watch and allows us to see space fights in a seemingly realistic way.
The fact that the special effects help to enhance the experience by making it all seem even more plausible is an added bonus.
Loved the way that they have the characters form a cohesive fighting team where they all know one another so well that they can work together so fluidly no matter the situation.
The use of Groot as a comic relief aspect in this film more so than in the previous one is amazing to watch and helps alleviate some of the heavily serious aspects of this film.
This is among the best of the films in the MCU and I can’t wait to see where the team will go from here. (Yes, I know they appear in Infinity War, but since I haven’t yet seen it, please don’t ruin it.)
Bottom Line – Great sequel that jumps right into the action. Amazing soundtrack helps once again keep the film in a certain mind frame while also adding to the momentum of it all. Great that this film doesn’t feel the need to reintroduce the characters and lets the story develop on its own because we already know the characters very well. The action scenes are so much fun to watch and are enhanced by the amazing special effects that help make this film feel very realistic. The way that the team works together is quiet enjoyable to watch because they are familiar enough with one another that they can work as such a cohesive team. Love Groot and he is the perfect comic relief to help lessen some of the very heavy theme sof this film. Can’t wait to see where they take these characters from here on especially since their next step is joining the overall MCU storyline. (Havent seen Infinity War yet, so don’t spoil it) This is among the very best of the MCU films and I hope they keep making them like this one. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Prop Master Russell Bobbitt had difficulty finding the cassette decks used in the first film, and all of the Sony Walkman headphones they found were broken. Bobbitt contacted Sony to see if they had any available for filming. They didn’t, so he eventually created six from scratch. (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10) (no change from original review)
