Number of Times Seen – 2 (8 Jun 2008 and 9 May 2018)
Brief Synopsis – A treasure hunter tries to find a long lost fortune buried somewhere in the Caribbean while dealing with a loss of his boat, his money and his wife.
My Take on it – This is a film that is quite fun and manages to pretty much accomplish what it sets out to do.
This film’s plot feels like a modern day version of an Indiana Jones adventure.
Unfortunately, that feeling is slightly marred by the fact hat they add too many extraneous humorous situations to the mix along with some really quirky characters who can’t be taken seriously.
The cast is great with Matthew McConaughey doing a fine job here in the lead role.
He once again is paired with Kate Hudson and they get to show that the ecstatic chemistry between them in How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days (2003) was not a fluke.
They banter so well together and it seems quite natural.
In addition to McConaughey and Hudson, this film features some really talented actors; Donald Sutherland, Ray Winstone, Kevn Hart and Malcolm-Jamal Warner (yes, Theo from the Cosby Show) are all enjoyable to watch.
This film’s plot lays out the clues to the fortune really well and despite the occasional quirkyness of some of the situations, it helps keep things really intriguing and entertaining almost the whole way through.
Bottom Line – Fun film that does what it’s meant to do. McConaughey does a fine job here and he and Hudson have really great chemistry together once again. The plot feels like a modern day Indiana Jones but they add too much humor and quirky characters into the mix to make it work even better. The supporting cast is quite talented and includes Sutherland, Winstone, Hart and Warner all help keep things enjoyable. The way that they lay out the clues works really well and keeps things interesting despite the occasional quirkyness of it all.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When Tess says Finn is a genius at 3 things. She says treasure salving, finding money for treasure salving… Salving is putting an ointment on. It should have been salvaging. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
