Number of Times Seen – 1 (23 May 2018)
Brief Synopsis – A family tries to survive in a world where there are monsters that can find you if you make any noise.
My Take on it – As many of you probably know, I’m not the biggest fan of films that fall into the horror genre, but I have heard so many great things about this film, I just had to check it out for myself.
The general premise is really interesting and they found a way to make it work onscreen.
The choice to make a film that revolves so much around sound (or the absence of sound actually) is truly genius and they find clever ways to make it work over and over.
They are able to utilize so many interesting ideas in order to keep things as silent as possible while still keeping things constantly interesting, which one could assume would be extremely difficult to accomplish.
The one drawback of the way this film is presented is that I would have been happier if they had found a clearer way to give us more background on what actually happened and why.
The truth is tho, that even without those answers so clear for us, this story still works really well and shows that such an idea can really work and still stay enjoyable to watch.
Bottom Line – Great idea that works so well. The choice to make a film based solely on (the lack of) sounds is really clever. They utilize so many interesting ideas to try and keep things as quiet as possible and instead of making the viewer lose interest, it has the exact opposite effect. The one drawback of this film is that we don’t really get enough background on what is happening and why, but in some cases (like this one), it isn’t as imperative. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In the opening scene, most of the shelves in the grocery store are cleared off, but the chips are completely untouched because they would make too much noise to open and eat. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
