Number of Times Seen – 2 (3 Sep 2008 and 9 Jun 2018)
Brief Synopsis – A young women has 20 minutes to find 100,000 Mark in order to save her boyfriend from gangsters
My Take on it – This is such a simple yet genius idea that works really well.
The idea to show the same scenario with varying time shifts has been tried many times both before and after this film utilized it, but this still remains one of the best depictions of it.
The general idea is quite interesting and works really well.
The short runtime also helps raise the level of tension because things move at a rapid pace and get to where they need as quickly as possible.
The idea to very the story three time by the difference of mere seconds is great and I loved how it shows the butterfly effect on all events throughout the “course” of Lola’s 20 minute journey.
The simplicity of this plot is what makes it so enjoyable to watch because it is so straightforward yet its easy to see how complex things truly can get along the way.
Despite the fact that this film was made on a low budget, it doesn’t effect the storytelling aspect of it all.
Loved the way that they utilize animation in certain scenes in order to possibly lower costs yet still make sure that the reasons for the time shifts are quite clear to the viewer.
Bottom Line – Very interesting idea that works quite well. The idea to show three different scenarios of the same story based solely on a few seconds lapse is great and helps make this premise so innovative. It has been copied numerous times, some more successful than others yet the simplicity of it all here is what makes is so enjoyable to watch. The various techniques used to lower the cost of the low budget idea also adds to the genius of it all; I especially liked the animated scenes that help explain the varying timeline shifts throughout the film. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Yoshiaki Koizumi who is a game designer at Nintendo(R) called ‘Run Lola, Run’ one of the main inspirations he had when he came up with the idea behind the game ‘The Legend of Zelda – Majora’s Mask’ (released on Nintendo 64 in year 2000). Like Run Lola, Run, the game is centered around the experience of time rewinding which will make you experience the same days and events reoccur over and over until you eventually have what you need to achieve your main goal. Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10)
