Number of Times Seen – 2 (6 Dec 2008 and 8 Jun 2018)
Brief Synopsis – A former American soldier is suspected by the FBI and CIA of selling explosives to Mideast factions and it’s a race against time to stop him before he helps coordinate a massive attack on US soil.
My Take on it – This is a film that I saw almost a decade ago and only recalled that it was quite interesting.
The way that this story is presented works really well and the rapid pace helps raise the suspense level of it all.
The plot is filled with lots of twists and turns around every corner and they do an excellent job turning the tables on the viewer over and over as things get more and more complicated because nothing is truly as it might seem to be.
The cast is amazing and despite the fact that we have numerous famous actors in this film, none of them ever feel immune to injury which helps make this feel even more genuine.
Don Cheadle is superb in the lead and he is helped by Guy Pierce, Jeff Daniels and Neal McDonough.
I was quite shocked to learn that Comedian Steve Martin thought of the idea and story of this film (see Trivia below) which goes to show that ideas can come from some of the places one would least expect.
He is able to give us such an intriguing suspense story that feels ripped from the headlines even a decade after the film was made.
Bottom Line – Great suspense story that moves along at a rapid pace. The story is filled with lots of twists and turns along the way that help keep things interesting and intriguing because nothing is ever as it seems to be. Amazing cast works really well here and I loved the way that they allow things to take their course despite the fact that no one feels immune from injury. Cheadle, Pierce, Daniels and McDonough are all superb here. Shocked to have learned that this story idea came from comedian Steve Martin and that says so much about him that he is able to give us such an enjoyable suspense film that feels completely ripped from the headlines. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Steve Martin came up with the idea for the movie while filming Bringing Down the House (2003). (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
