Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Jun 2018)
Brief Synopsis – Two best friends crave the adrenaline of mountain climbing and attempt to be chosen among a team of climbers who will try and tackle the dangerous mountain known as K2.
My Take on it – This is a film that I recall hearing about when it came out but never had the opportunity to actually see it.
The film comes across as really fun and full of “extreme” adventure yet the plot itself is quite weak.
The characters all pretty much feel like stereotype and most come across as being quite superficial.
The few scenes where we get real emotion work well despite this.
The cast is ok with Michael Bienn and Matt Craven leading the way.
Bienn is a typical action hero of the 80/90’s and works well here in the lead.
I have always been a fan of Craven in everything that he does but he seems a bit miscast in this role as an adrenaline seeking doctor/scientist.
The cinematography of the film is superbly done and we get some great aerial shots of some of the mountain climbing scenes which are really enjoyable to watch.
Bottom Line – Fun film that has very little plotwise. The characters seem quite superficial through the majority of the story and the few moments where we get real emotion work quite well. Bienn is great in the lead but Craven seems a big miscast here despite usually being a great actor. The cinematography is gorgeous to watch and some of the mountain scenes are great to watch.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – At a comic-con in El Paso Micheal Biehn revealed he is deathly afraid of heights (*which is odd choice for casting in such a role) and laughed about being whisked to and from the set by helicopter. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
