“Ma’am, we just had eight city blocks disappear. The President of the United States talked to my boss at three this morning, he wants answers” – FBI Agent Ford
Number of Times Seen – 1 (12 Jun 2018)
Brief Synopsis – Two scientists are framed for the murder of their boss and must find a way to stop a high level conspiracy before they are silenced.
My Take on it – This is a film that I recall hearing about when it came out, but never really had much of a desire to see until now.
The film is quite mediocre in the way it presents things which is a real shame since the overall premise is actually quite good.
The story fails to keep things believable at all which takes away from making it not feel like a silly pseudo-thriller.
The cast is completely wasted here with Keeanu Reeves, Morgan Freeman and Rachel Weisz all getting very underdeveloped characters that don’t allow us to care about them at all because they all come across as typical thriller archetypes instead of ones that feel interesting.
The plot is filled with so many holes that it looks like Swiss cheese.
The biggest problem here is that underneath it all, there does seem to be a very interesting and compelling thriller, but due to the Hollywoodization of the story, that all gets paved over so much that it’s almost unrecognizable which is quite a shame.
Bottom Line – Very mediocre film that takes a great idea and destroys it rather quickly. The premise of the film is quite good but the story fails to maintain any amount of believably along the way which takes away so much from everything. Reeves, Freeman and Weisz are all wasted here because their characters don’t get developed enough for us to really care about them or the situations that they find themselves in. Too many plot holes makes the story feel like Swiss cheese. This story could have been a quite good if it didn’t get too Hollywoodicized along the way
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – “I’m your friend, Eddie” is the only line of dialogue in the film that originated from Josh Friedman’s script “Dead Drop”. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
