“Okay. Okay, right? We’re fine. Everything is fine. Yeah… no, no, no, it’s okay. It probably just meant that I love cake that I couldn’t resist it. Hey, it’s all good… [Finbar suddenly explodes in a burst of flame]” – Moose Finbar

Brief Synopsis – Four students in detention find an old video game and somehow get sucked into the game world. In order to get back home, they must find a way to win the game.
My Take on it – This is a film that I wasn’t sure what to expect from since I’m usually not the biggest fan of remakes and reboots of older films.
I have always enjoyed the original Jumanji (1995) and was skeptical as to what they would deliver here.
They actually do a ice job of updating the idea from a board game to a video game while still remaining faithful to the idea of the game.
This version is much more action packed and humorous than the previous one especially since we get to see the world of Jumanji itself instead of having the inhabitants visit our world.
The cats is great and the four actors playing the avatars: The Rock, Kevin hart, Jack Black and Gillam are all great here especially since they need to play their characters as their real life counterparts including emotions.
This in an of itself makes the film so much fun because of its uniqueness.
The problem with this film is that the game aspect itself is not developed well enough and certain things feels too superficial.
Overall this film does manage to deliver since it’s a fun ride the entire way through.
Bottom Line – Interesting idea to remake and update the story of the film from over twenty years ago. This version is more action packed and humorous and works quite well within the constraints that it has. The cast is great and The Rock, Hart and Black all doing a great job with their characters due to the uniqueness of the roles they are required to play. The storyline of the game itself feels a bit poorly developed, but overall it delivers on being a fun movie. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – If Dwayne Johnson could play any other role in the film, he’d play Jack Black’s character, Bethany. Johnson said, “I know how much fun [Jack] had every day playing a 16-year-old self-obsessed girl.” (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
