“We can’t negotiate in the bloody press! ” – Max Vernon
Number of Times Seen – 1 (14 Jun 2018)
Brief Synopsis – After gunman take over the Iranian Embassy in London, the police must decide whether to negotiate or use military action in order to stop the threat.
My Take on it – There have been numerous films made over the years which portray real terrorist events and their immediate aftermath.
Most of them give us a great depiction of everything that happened, while managing to keep the tension level high enough to keep things interesting and suspenseful the whole time.
This film doesn’t manage to do any of that.
None of the characters are developed well enough for us to care about what will happen to them regardless of who they are.
This film has some talented cast members like Jamie Bell and Mark Strong, but it would be hard to tell that from the kinds of performances that they give here.
The script feels quite unenthusiastic about the events portrayed and instead of being interesting and gripping, this film comes across as being quite banal and boring which is quite a shame since one normally expects good things from a story like this one.
The action of this film is too abrupt and we don’t get enough time to digest things before the story moves along in another direction.
Bottom Line – Very mediocre tale of a real terrorist event and its aftermath. The characters all feel too distant and that hurts this story since we don’t care as much about what will happen to any of them. There are lots of better made films that show a terrorist event from start to finish that are more gripping and more interesting in the way that things are presented. Bell and Strong are both great actors, but it’s hard to tell from watching them in this film. The action scenes are too quick and they don’t give us enough time to digest everything because everything stops too abruptly.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The SAS used only 30 to 35 soldiers in the raid, but they estimate that more than 10,000 people claim to have taken part. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
