Ricochets (1986)

“What’s clear? Nothing is clear in this country. Do you understand? Black is white and white is black, but for you everything is just black. ” – Tuvia

Number of Times Seen – At least 3 times (TV in ’90, 25 Dec 2004 and 16 Jun 2018)

Brief Synopsis – A platoon of Israeli soldiers serving in Lebanon right before the withdrawal must deal with the complexities of the politics and situations that arise around them.

My Take on it – This is a film that I’ve seen a few times and is known for being one of the most realistic depiction of the war in Lebanon in the mid 1980’s.

Having served as a soldier in the Israeli Army less than a decade later and having served in the demilitarized zone for a few months,, I can attest to the fact that much is shown and described here comes scarily close to the truth.

This is a great (ant-(war film because it shows how situations that may seem simple from afar are in reality much more complex due to the politics and unknown situations that constantly pop up when you least expect them to.

The cast of this film is great and the characters and the situations that they must deal with are a;ll extremely realistic.

The theme song for this film has become a popular military song in Israel and is played quite often on the radio.

It is quite emotional and poignant in it’s message and I love listening to it because it’s so true.  I’ve actually been having trouble getting it out of my head over the past few days since I watched this film.

Listen to it here:

Bottom Line – Great (anti) war film that shows that nothing is simple in a war situation. There are constantly new issues that arise all of the time and instead of things being done in a simple and sane way, the politics involved always take the lead. The cast is great and the characters and situations feel quite authentic. The theme song is amazing and quite poignant and is a favorite of mine. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Theme song from film became a huge hit in Israel and is still considered among the best military songs ever made (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
