Number of Times Seen – 1 (17 Jun 2018)
Brief Synopsis – After a German crew is shot down over Norway, they meet up with two British pilots and the foes must find a way to survive in the cold wilderness far away from civilization.
My Take on it –This is a film that I heard about not long ago and was intrigued by the plot and finally got around to seeing what it was all about.
The fact that this is based on a real incident doesn’t surprise me at all and that actually helps make the story work even better.
The story itself is interesting because it gives us the ability to see how foes in the air must find a way to survive while trusting the enemy while on the ground.
Both sides are constantly suspicious of the other and that helps keep the level of tension quite high as they all seek a way to survive the ordeal that they find themselves in.
The film touches upon some great themes and they work quite well for the most part.
The use of relatively unknown actors in the roles was a nice choice because it allows us to focus on the characters rather than who is playing them which helps us try and look at the story from a very neutral position.
Bottom Line – Such a great idea that works quite well, but is still far from perfect. The themes touched upon here are done really interestingly and I loved the way that the tables kept turning as the story moved along. We get a very interesting understanding of relations between foes in the sky and subsequently on the ground. The relatively unknown cast helps make this more interesting because the story itself tries to remain as neutral as possible the entire time. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Based on true events. The names of the German airmen were not changed for this film, but the names of the British airmen were changed. The real names of the British airmen were captain R. T. Partridge (Davenport) and R.S. Bostok (Smith). (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
