Number of Times Seen – 1 (1 Jul 2018)
Brief Synopsis – Recounts the incident where US Senator Ted Kennedy had an accident while vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard in 1969 where a young female staff member was killed
My Take on it – Anyone who know anything about US political history pertaining to the Kennedy clan, is at least somewhat familiar with the story that is presented here about the events that led to the third political Kennedy brother’s downfall as a future Presidential hopeful.
Ted Kennedy always lived in the shadow of his two more famous brothers (John and Bobby) yet never managed to fulfill his potential as the apparent heir of the Kennedy dynasty in US politics.
The story is told here in an interesting way and shows us the power that a political family can have during a personal crisis.
The problem with this film is that it presents everything in a very lackluster fashion which takes away from the story largely due to the fact that this is told in a pretty boring way.
I’ve always been a big fan of Jason Clarke and think that he’;s a great actor, but his portrayal of Kennedy in this film just doesn’t work and it comes across as not being powerful enough.
The film itself depicts a very interesting story that is quite intriguing due to the lack of real knowledge of what actually happened, but the way that this film is done, we are left with more unanswered questions than true answers which is quite frustrating.
Bottom Line – Very lackluster portrayal of the events that happened that stunted the career of a potential Presidential hopeful who had to live in the shadow of his older brothers. Clark is a great actor, but his portrayal here doesn’t work well enough. This film depicts a very interesting and intriguing story but leaves even more unanswered questions than true answers when all is said and done.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Jason Clarke, who plays Ted Kennedy is this film, was born on July 17th, 1969, just one day before the Chappaquiddick incident on July 18th, 1969. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
