Blue is the Warmest Color (2013)

“But I have infinite tenderness for you. I always will. My whole life. ” – Emma

Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 Aug 2018)

Brief Synopsis – A high school girl confused with her life tries to find true love and ends up finding it in a place she never expected.

My Take on it – This is a film that I heard about a few years ago but due to the fact that this film is in French, I always avoided it since I’m was never a fan of foreign language films.

Since I’ve been trying to broaden my horizons over the past few months, I decided to give this movie a try.

I was stunned by how much I enjoyed this film.

It is so different from the kind of movies that I usually connect to yet really enjoyed every minute of it.

The love story presented here comes across as feeling quite genuine and realistic and the way that they let the characters fall in love at a gradual pace helps make us believe that they truly are in love.

The cats is superbly chosen and they have such amazing chemistry throughout which also helps make everything feel even more real.

The way that the characters are developed helps us believe that they have gotten to know each other quite deeply in a relatively short period of time yet don’t feel too contrived like in many films featuring a love story.

At 3 hours, it’s a bit long, but we are given the opportunity to see this relationship progress which helps make it worthwhile despite the long running time.

Bottom Line – Excellent film that surprised me on so many levels. The story works quite well and it’s so easy to believe the love between the characters because ot happens at a gradual pace that comes across as realistic and genuine. The cast is superb and it’s so easy to believe that they have known each other so deeply in a relatively short time. Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The actresses only read the script once. Abdellatif Kechiche insisted that they forget what the script said line for line, and instead asked them to improvise their scenes and really let their actions and words come out naturally and as unforced as possible. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10)
