“Men are like parking spaces: all the good ones are taken, and the available ones are handicapped.” – Nan
Number of Times Seen – 2 (5 May 1999 and 7 Aug 2018)
Brief Synopsis – After a mishap in space, two astronauts return to Earth but act very differently than beforehand.
My Take on it – This is a film that I recall seeing not long after it came out and being a non-fan of horror thrillers, I wasn’t taken in by it at all.
I decided that after 19 years, maybe it was time to give it another shot, but once again, it just didn’t manage to keep me interested at all.
I have always been a fan of space related films and this one gives us a slight taste of that but then turns into a horror thriller that takes away from the sci-fi aspects of it all.
The film actually has an interesting premise but the way that it is presented to us makes it come across so horrendously that any points it would get for the idea are lost by the way it plays out.
The cast of this film includes Charlize Theron and Johnny Depp yet despite their talent, they are both wasted in these roles because they aren’t given enough to work with.
This film feels like a very bad imitation of a modern version of Rosemary’s Baby (1968) or something similar to it and just doesn’t manage to work on any level which is quite a shame because of the potential that this story actually has.
Bottom Line – Terrible film that actually has an interesting premise which isn’t done well at all. The cast is extremely talented yet they don’t seem to have been given enough to do here which is quite a waste. This feels like an attempt to modernize Rosemary’s Baby (1968) or other similar themed films and doesn’t manage to come even close to being as good. Even the space and sci-fi aspects of this film don’t manage to work as they might have been able to if done properly.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When Mr. Reese tracks Jillian to the toy store, he opens his briefcase to show her documents. The lock code was set to ‘666’. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
