Something’s Gotta Give (2003)

“When something happens to you that hasn’t happened before, don’t you at least have to find out what it is?” – Julian

Number of Times Seen – 2 (19 Jan 2005 and 7 Aug 2018)

Brief Synopsis – A 60 year old womanizer gets stuck at the house of te mother of his latest girlfriend after suffering a mild heart attack.

My Take on it – This is a film that I saw years ago and didn’t remember much about it besides the two main characters.

It still remains a very fun film to watch.

Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton are both perfectly cast here and their amazing onscreen chemistry helps make this film work even better.

The supporting cast that includes Keanu Reeves and Amanda Peet also manage to help keep this storyline fun the entire time.

The pacing is great and the story plays out very enjoyably the whole time.

The plot, like most plots in this genre is extremely predictable yet still manages to stay interesting and satisfying because of some great twists along the way.

The film actually also tries to tackle the whole myth about relationships between people of various ages and does so in both a humorous and poignant way.

Some of the scenes in this film are quite hilarious and are very indicative of the kind of relationships depicted including the Viagra scene that Nicholson is able to do perfectly

Bottom Line – Such a fun film. Nicholson and Keaton have great chemistry together and the film comes across as being even more enjoyable due to that. The supporting cast help add to the fun the whole time. The way that the story moves along works very well and eventhough the plot is very predictable like most films in this genre, it still remains satisfying throughout its journey.  In addition, this film manages to try and tackle well known myths about relationships between people of very different ages.  REcommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In this movie, Jack Nicholson plays a notorious bachelor, who always “escaped the noose”, while Diane Keaton plays a divorcée. In real-life, it’s the other way around: Nicholson is a divorcée, while Keaton is a bachelorette. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
