Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Aug 2018)
Brief Synopsis – A former Federal agent, now turned security expert must face terrorists in the building that he now works in.
My Take on it – Dwayne Johnson has been slowly managing to establish himself as the latest action hero and has somehow been able to churn out so many new movies where he doesn’t seem to be playing the exact same character every time (like most movie action heroes usually do).
In this film, he plays a John McCLane doppelganger that tries to modernize the events of Die Hard (1988).
I’m a HUGE fan of that film and always get enjoyment watching other films try to do justice with a story in the genre and more often than not, fail miserably.
This film actually manages to take the premise to a very enjoyable point and works as a fun popcorn movie as long as you don’t expect anything more from it.
Johnson still doesn’t manage to get intimate scenes to not seem wooden and all of his interactions with co-star Neve Campbell comes across quite humorously due to the way he does those scenes.
The story itself doesn’t make as much sense as one would hope yet they somehow find a way to still keep it enjoyable and entertaining the entire way through despite the many plot holes.
Bottom Line – Very fun Die Hard (1988) doppelganger that gives us very little but popcorn entertainment the way most people like it. Johnson once again proves how great an action star he can be with his performance here even if his dialogue comes across as being too wooden especially in some intimate scenes with Campbell. The story itself makes little sense yet manages to remain entertaining and enjoyable the whole time despite this. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In order to make the jump from the crane to the building featured in the trailer Dwayne would have to run and leave the platform at 12.7 meters per second (appr. 28.4 mph) – For comparison, Usain Bolt’s fastest recorded speed is 27.4 mph. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
