Brief Synopsis – After the President suffers a massive stroke, his double is hired to continue being President in his stead.

My Take on it – This is a film that I have always loved ever since I saw it for the first time in the theater in ’93.

I have always been a fan of Presidential history and this film does a great job of satirizing the whole political process.

Kevin Kline is superb in the title role and he manages to do a great George H.W. Bush impersonation the whole way through especially via his voice intonations and his hand gestures.

Yes, I’m willing to admit that the story presented here is not realistic at all yet they still manage to present it in both a hilarious and serious fashion at the same time because they deal with real issues throughout.

It is rumored that this is among Bill Clinton’s favorite films.

Kline has great chemistry with his costar Sigourney Weaver and the scenes that they have together are so enjoyable to watch because they make things feel so genuine.

This film is filled with a plethora of cameos from many politicians, pundits and even activists which helps make this film’s premise seem even more real and these cameos bring it into the realm of reality.

The musical score by James Newton Howard is superb and even after a few days, I can’;t get it out of my head because it’s such a catchy tune.

This is an extremely entertaining film that manages to work on numerous levels and I believe that KLline’s performance as President Mitchell/Dave remains one of the very best fictional movie Presidents

Bottom Line – Such a great film since it manages to present a hilarious scenario that albeit wouldn’t really work comes across as being quite entertaining.  Kline is superb in the title role and does a great Bush impersonation.  His chemistry with Weaver is great and the scenes they share together come across as being more realistic based on their synergy. Filled with a plethora of political cameos that help make it fit even better into the world of politics.  The music by James Newton Howard is great and is so catchy. Such an entertaining film that works on so many levels and Kline’s performance still remains one of the best roles of a fictional President. Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia –  Gary Ross said he was very unhappy with an early draft of the script he had written. Despite being late in delivering the script and short on money, he started over from scratch, and had to take out a second loan on his house to finance the next draft. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10) (no change from original review)
