Sightseers (2012)

“The police announced today that they’re pursuing a ginger-faced man and an angry woman in connection with inquiries.” – Radio Newsreader

Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Sep 2018)

Brief Synopsis – A newly dating couple go on a road trip in order to deepen their relationship.

My Take on it – This is a film that I had never even heard of before yet in my quest to watch and review all of Ben Wheatley’s films for this month’s Director’s Chair over at The LAMB, I decided to give it a shot.

The story itself starts off really well as a budding relationship story but quite quickly ventures into very dark territory as the story begins to slowly unfold.

The events depicted here are mostly over the top, yet since this is a dark comedy, it all stays enjoyable the whole time because it leaves things open to be seen from a humorous perspective.

The two main characters of Tina and Chris (played by Alice Rowe and Steve Olam) have great chemistry together and that makes things a bit awkward at certain points because on the one hand, we want them to succeed even though some of their actions are quite questionable from a moral perceptive.

This is an adventure film no other and due to the great characters, the viewer is quite interested in seeing where things will lead especially since the events that transpire get more and more complex at the same time as they get completely crazy.

Bottom Line – Story that starts off being very normal yet moved into very dark territory that surprisingly is still enjoyable to watch unfold.  Some of the events presented here are quite over the top, but as a dark comedy this works quite well. Chris and Tina are great characters and we feel the great chemistry that they both have from the start which makes things even more difficult once things start to get crazy because the characters remain likeable despite everything that transpires along the way. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The Crich tourist character played by Tony Way is seen eating a Cornetto. The film was Executively Produced by Edgar Wright, who directed the films, Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007), and The World’s End (2013), a.k.a. the Cornetto Trilogy. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
