Brief Synopsis – Three gangsters take a family hostage as they await the arrival of the President of the United States in a small town in order to attempt to assassinate him.

My Take on it – This is such a great film that I saw by chance years ago on cable and it remains among my favorite films because it is so enjoyable to watch.

The plot plays out really well and they manage to keep things thrilling and intriguing the whole time.

Frank Sinatra and Sterling Hayden are both superb in the leads and the way that they match wits against one another the entire time works really well.

The dialogue is amazing to listen to because all of the characters are fleshed out by their words and actions quite quickly.

This helps us care so much about the various characters and what will happen to them along the way.

The fact that they establish the backstories of the characters quite rapidly helps them dive right in to the action fairly quickly.

The pacing of the story works really well and is superbly set up throughout in order to maximize the thrilling aspects of it all.

I really liked the way that this film doesn’t feel the need to drag things out and that they are willing to keep the film at a brisk 80 minutes.

Bottom Line – Such an amazing film. I have loved the way this film plays out ever since I first saw it by accident years ago on cable. Sinatra and Hayden are both excellent here and we get to see them match wits the entire time. They do a great job quickly giving us the backstory of the characters and them delving right into the action itself. The plot is superbly set up and moves along at a great pace. Like the fact that they don’t feel the need to drag out the story and are content with a film that is slightly less than 80 minutes long. Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia –  This is the film that Lee Harvey Oswald supposedly watched just a few days before assassinating President John F. Kennedy. (From IMDB)
