High-Rise (2015)

“There’s no food left. Only the dogs. And Mrs. Hillman is refusing to clean unless I pay her what I apparently owe her. Like all poor people, she’s obsessed with money. ” – Ann

Number of Times Seen – 1 (26 Sep 2018)

Brief Synopsis – In a high rise tower in London, the tenants lives begin to get out of control.

My Take on it – In my attempt (and accomplishment) to watch all of Ben Wheatley’s films for this month’s Director Chair over at The LAMB, I finally got the chance to see the final film needed to complete the quest.

Once again, this is another crazy film by Wheatley that I didn’t enjoy for an iota of time.

The story is pretty crazy and is instead an existentialist look at life in a high rise apartment building.

The characters are very superficial and none are developed in a way that would make them interesting to us.

The cast of this film is quite talented and I’m impressed that they got Tom Hiddleson, Jeremy Irons and Sienna Miller to join in but the story remains way too strange and allegorical which makes it every difficult to follow what is truly going on here.

Before watching this film, I saw a bit of trivia on IMDB that slightly confused me (see trivia section below), but after having seen the film, I can completely understand how people could deem this film and its story to be completely unfilmable.

The fact that Wheatley managed to accomplish such a feat ca be applauded, yet even after this was successfully filmed, the story still remains completely incomprehensible to people like me.

Bottom Line – Another terrible Wheatley movie that relies too heavily on existential ideas than have a coherent story. The cast is quite impressive, but even with the likes of Hiddleson, Irons and Miller, this story remains too strange and incoherent throughout. I now completely understand the trivia about this film being stalled for years due to it’s story being nearly unfilmable (see Trivia section below)

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – High-Rise (2015) has been a stalled passion project for producer Jeremy Thomas for decades. It was once deemed “unfilmable.”  (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
