The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s Genre has been chosen by Darren of Movie Reviews 101 and it is Zombie Films

Try to think out of the box!
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Zombie Films.…
Number of Times Seen – 1 (17 Oct 2018)
Brief Synopsis – A scientist travel to Haiti to try and find a special powder that apparently creates Zombies.
My Take on it – In my quest to watch other Zombie films that I’ve never seen before, I decided to try and tackle this one because it adds in elements of voodoo and witch doctors which is an interesting twist for the genre.
The fact that this story is supposedly based on some truths actually separates it from many other films in the genre largely due to the fact that things are supposedly more realistic from a certain perspective.
The biggest problem here is the fact that the story itself comes across as being very choppy and uneven which takes away from any potential for really helping the viewer get more drawn into and engaged into the story being told.
Perhaps if I was a bigger fan of horror films, I would have enjoyed this much more.
Bottom Line – This is a Zombie film that is supposedly based on some truths and that actually separates it from other films in the genre because it brings the ideas of voodoo and how it can possible be related to causing someone to become a Zombie. The premise is actually an interesting one but the way that the story is presented is way too choppy and uneven the whole way through.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Due to political strife and civil turmoil in Haiti during the production, the local government informed the film crew that they could not guarantee their safety for the remainder of the shoot. The crew subsequently relocated to nearby Dominican Republic to complete filming. (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not really. Interesting concept, but not engaging enough.
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
