Heart Condition (1990)

“Racial prejudice I can understand, but ghost prejudice? Now that’s a whole different concept.” – Napolean Stone

Number of Times Seen – 1 (12 Nov 2018)

Brief Synopsis – After getting murdered, a mob lawyer comes back as a ghost and tries to get the racist police officer who received his heart in a transplant to help solve his murder.

My Take on it – In my quest to watch more films starring Denzel Washington, I decided to try and give this film a shot.

It’s meant to be a comedy yet nothing really funny happens and there doesn’t even feel as if there was any attempt on part of the writers to add humor to the mix.

Bob Hoskins and Denzel are TERRIBLE together and they lack any kind of chemistry even when the characters are meant to not like each other from the start.

The banter between the characters is actually annoying to listen to.

The “rules”of ghosts that are explained to the viewer in this film keep contradicting themselves which makes a mess even of the idea behind it all.

This film presents a really silly story and doesn’t manage to become interesting at all as the plot moves along.

The number of holes in the plot are astronomical and too often it feels as if this movie was made just to mess with out minds instead of giving us anything that could be even remotely enjoyable on any level.

Skip it!

Bottom Line – Terrible film that lacks humor on any level. Hoskins and Washington have terrible chemistry together and even their banter is annoying to listen to.  The story itself is quite silly and fails to gain any interest whatsoever. The plot is filled with so many holes that it constantly feels as if they made this film just to mess with our minds since very little makes any sense.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – It was long rumored that Denzel Washington was talked into making this film by his agent, and fired him shortly afterwards because of how terrible the reception for it was. However, in 2017 Washington’s publicist was asked about this “fact” in a story on the movie at The Ringer and stated for the record that the rumor was not and never had been true. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
