Forced Film 2018 #1 – Children Who Chase Lost Voices (2011)

This is the first of 6 films that I was “forced” to watch by my fellow bloggers who participated in my Blogiversary Contest back in April.  This movie was chosen by SG.  Tnx for the suggestion.  Let’s see what I thought of it….

“Now at this point the fear is almost unbearable, but at the same time there’s an equally powerful happiness. ” – Shun

Number of Times Seen – 1 (12 Nov 2018)

Brief Synopsis – A young girl finds an entrance to a secret world where she tries to find out the hidden mysteries of this new and enchanting place.

My Take on it – I’ve never been the biggest fan of films of the genre of anime and manga and actually wasn’t looking forward to seeing what this film was all about.

The overall premise is quite unique and seems very interesting but it gets too convoluted as things move along which makes it much harder to resonate with those of us who are not fans of the genre itself.

I found it extremely hard to get into this film and really had difficulty caring about the characters or what would happen to them.

The arc of the storyline moves in an intriguing way, but it too often gets too slow and that causes the viewer to constantly lose interest in what is transpiring.

It unfortunately doesn’t manage to stay captivating and intriguing throughout and this may have something to do with the fact that the length of 2 hours is a bit too much for such a story and it might have been more interesting if it was a bit shorter.

Bottom Line – Interesting idea that just doesn’t resonate very well. Perhaps it has to do with my own indifference to manga, anime and other films of this genre, but I couldn’t get into it at all. The story moves in an interesting arc yet fails to stay captivating and intriguing enough throughout.  The story moves a bit too slowly at certain points which takes away from its ability to keep the interest of the viewer.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Before the movie’s release in May 2011, manga adaptations were set to begin serialization in April 2011 in the first issue of the new magazine Monthly Comic Gene and in Monthly Comic Flapper, both by Media Factory (From Wikipedia)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
