This is the fifth of 6 films that I was “forced” to watch by my fellow bloggers who participated in my Blogiversary Contest back in April. This movie was chosen by SG. Tnx for the suggestion. Let’s see what I thought of it….
“What the hell happened here?” – Enrique
Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Nov 2018)
Brief Synopsis – Following a deadly outbreak of a disease that forces everyone to avoid being outside, a computer programmer scours the city via the sewers in an attempt to find his pregnant girlfriend.
My Take on it – This is another film that I had never even heard of before SG suggested it to me.
The overall premise is actually an intriguing one but unfortunately due to the limited scope of the film, it just doesn’t work very well.
The characters aren’t developed well enough and even the main character of Marc is created too flimsily for the viewer to actually care about what will happen to him or any of the other characters for that matter.
The story fails to explain much of what is happening and that lack of knowledge is quite frustrating as we want to get a better understanding of all that is transpiring in this world where a new deadly virus has forbidden everyone from reaching open spaces outside and surviving.
The film has too many plot holes that take so much away from the enjoyment which is quite a shame because the premise is definitely a unique one that could have been presented so much better for it to be even more enjoyable to watch unfold.
Bottom Line – Interesting idea that just doesn’t work well enough due to the limited scope of the film. The characters aren’t developed well enough and it’s very difficult to care about what happens to them. The story leaves so much unexplained which is a bit frustrating to try and take in. The film has too many plot holes that take away from enjoying what they are attempting to do with this unique idea for an apocalypse.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The second of two movies by directors David and Àlex Pastor that take place in a post-apocalyptic world. The first one is Carriers (2009). (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
