Jagged Edge (1985)

“You’ll stop at nothing, won’t you? Anyone could’ve sent those notes; everyone knew – the police in Santa Cruz knew, people in your office knew!” – Teddy Barnes

Number of Times Seen – 1 (25 Nov 2018)

Brief Synopsis – After his wife is murdered by a masked killer, a newspaper editor hires a defense attorney to prove his innocence of the crime.

My Take on it – This is a film that I had heard about in general, but knew nothing about before seeing it.

They do an excellent job making this a great thriller and it works on numerous levels.

Much of the plot is kept quite ambiguous throughout which allows for them to conceivably make numerous characters suspects as the killer.

Both Jeff Bridges and Glenn Close are great here and they manage to build great chemistry between their characters as the story moves along.

Peter Coyote and Robert Loggia are also both superb in supporting roles.

Loggia was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor as a gruff investigator trying to help solve the case.

This film is filled with some great twists and turns that keep the viewer guessing throughout the film (and sometimes even long afterwards. (see Trivia Section below)

Bottom Line – Excellent crime thriller that works on numerous levels.  Love the way that they keep so much of the plot ambiguous that it’s actually possible and conceivable that numerous characters are the killer. Bridges and Close are great here and we can feel the chemistry building between them as the film moves along. Coyote and Loggia are both excellent in supporting roles. Loggia was deservingly nominated for an Oscar for est Supporting Actor for his gruff portrayal of an investigator in this film.  The twists and turns are superbly done here and they keep you guessing up until the very end or even afterwards (see Trivia section below) Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Some weeks after Siskel and Ebert had reviewed the movie on their show, they returned to the movie to address complaints of those who were unable to recognize the face of the killer in the last scene, so they gave their viewers time to turn down the sound and then explained who the killer was. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
