Here are the five nominees: (Winner in Bold)

Ned Beatty (Network)
Burgess Meredith (Rocky)
Laurence Olivier (Marathon Man)
Jason Robards (All the President’s Men)
Burt Young (Rocky)

Biggest Snub:

Chief Dan George – The Outlaw Josey Wales

My Overall Thoughts:

This year has 5 great nominated performances but two of them are very powerful ones that dueled it out up until the end.

My Rankings:

Supporting Actor

5. Burgess Meredith
4. Burt Young
3. Ned Beatty
2. Laurence Olivier
1. Jason Robards

Movies

4. Marathon ManGreat thriller that seems so realistic in the way that it plays out. Hoffman is great as the main character and we are as shocked a she is as everything begin to unfold around him. The drill scene can be felt by anyone and everyone who has experienced dental work and even by those who only fear such a thing. Olivier is chilling as the villain and it’s no wonder that he was nominated for an Oscar for his role.
3. RockyHad a new found appreciation for this film especially after watching the series as a whole. Really liked the way that this film deals more with going the distance than focusing n win or lose. Rocky is a great character and I loved his mild mannered way of courting the sister of his best friend. A great film, probably the best of the series, deserving of a Bets Picture nomination, but still not the best of the year.
2. All the President’s MenGreat depiction of how one of the biggest stories in US History unraveled before the whole country. Redford and Hoffman are excellent together.
1. NetworkExcellent movie that truly portrays the lengths executives could possibly go to to get higher ratings. It’s movies like this that made Reality TV a possibility. Amazing cast which won 3 Oscars.

Do I agree with the Oscar winner? – Most Definitely!  JR is amazing in this role and was quite deserving of his win. LO was a very close second.
