The Equalizer 2 (2018)

“There are two kinds of pain in this world. The pain that hurts, the pain that alters. Today, you get to choose.” – Robert McCall

Number of Times Seen – 1 (12 Dec 2018)

Brief Synopsis – After a murder of a family, McCall is brought in to investigate what happened and why but soon things get very personal for him.

My Take on it – This is yet another brainless action film that tries to be the new Taken (2008) where it can reuse much of the ideas previously used in the genre while also attempting to establish Denzel Washington as the new Liam Neeson or Tom Cruise who are destined to be action stars well into their 70’s or even longer.

The sequel is even less interesting than the original was and they seem to be just going through the motions most of the time.

The story is very trite and meanders along in a silly yet predictable arc throughout.

Trying to make a character like this seem interesting is a task and they don’t manage to do so here.

The action scenes are typical of films in this genre and even the poor choreography of some of the fight scenes that is a bit comical can be expected because that’s what is to be expected from a film like this.

They don’t manage to come even close to being worthy of using the same title as the great TV show from the 80’s that this is loosely based on.

Bottom Line – Very mediocre sequel that feels too much like they are more interested in making Denzel look like the new Neeson or Cruise no matter their age. The story is very trite and things meander along in a very predictable arc throughout. The action scenes even aren’t choreographed well and in some cases seems quite laughable.  Still doesn’t manage to feel worthy of using the name of the TV show from the 80’s.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When Robert McCall pulls Miles out of the gang apartment building, they reach the lobby and then McCall pressures Miles to shoot him to validate Miles’ decision to join the gang. McCall says “It’s only five pounds of pressure” – This is factually correct since 1911 pistols (being single-action pistols) are known for their light trigger pull as well as their century-old battle tested reliability. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)

  1. Let’s just say we disagree on this one. I liked the first one (after watching the TV series for years) but thought the sequel was far better, I saw it twice.
