Number of Times Seen – 1 (16 Dec 2018)
Brief Synopsis – Dramatization of the events that occurred that led to the first man landing on the moon in July 1969.
My Take on it – As a HUGE fan of the American Space Program in general, I was quite excited to see what this film would be all about.
Unfortunately, they do a lackluster job of showing the various events that happened that led to the crew of Apollo 11 being the first men to go all the way to the moon and actually walk on it.
Over the years, there have been numerous films that have done a much better job of showing this story and it’s quite unfortunate that this is done so halfheartedly and doesn’t feel as impactful as this kind of story deserves to be presented.
This isn’t told in a gripping enough fashion and it seems as if things are toned down way too much which takes away from what this film should give us.
The cast of this film is ok, but none of them stand out among the others and they all feel very neutral with everything that they manage to do. Andrew Lincoln plays one of the astronauts (Michael Collins) yet he isn’t impactful enough as he would be the following year with his role in The Walking Dead.
Bottom Line – Pretty mediocre dramatization of the Apollo 11 moon mission. There have been other versions that have been done much better over the years and kept thing more interesting than they manage to do here. Not as gripping as the story could be and most of this film feels as if it’s toned down and doesn’t remain exciting enough as such a story should probably be. The cast is ok and none of them stand out among the rest which is quite unfortunate.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When this movie was first aired on the History Channel (US), the moment when the character of Neil Armstrong puts his foot on the moon was timed to within a minute of the 40th anniversary of Armstrong actually stepping on the moon. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
