Man on a Ledge (2012)

“Today is the day when everything changes. One way or another.” – Nick Cassidy

Number of Times Seen – Twice (19 Apr 2012 and 17 Dec 2018)

Brief Synopsis – A former policeman incarcerated for a crime he didn’t commit set a scheme in motion to prove his innocence and also frame the true perpetrator.

My Take on it – This is a fun heist movie that works because it does so many unique things along the way.

The story is filled with lots of twists and turns and surprises pop up fairly often.

The script itself is quite clever and in some respects that actually hurts the film because instead of feeling like the story is flowing properly, it seems more like a connect the dots puzzle.

The cast is great and the use of so many familiar actors helps keep the story moving really well because you never truly know which of the characters can be trusted and which cannot as things keep changing along the way.

Sam Worthington, Jamie Bell, Elizabeth Banks, William Sadler, Edward Burns, Kyra Sedgwick, Anthony Mackie and Ed Harris are all great here and you never truly know the motivations of each of the characters which helps raise suspicions against every one of them.

Bottom Line – Fun heist film that is filled with so many surprises along the way. Love how the plot is slowly revealed to the audience as we get small clues every so often into what the actual truth is.  The script is a bit too clever that it ultimately feels like a connect the dots puzzle instead of something that flows well. The cast is great and I love how you never know which characters are trustworthy or not because that helps add another level to the whole plot. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Sam Worthington helped kick start Man on a Ledge into production when he expressed early interest in the script. Worthington partially admits to being intrigued by the role because of his fear of heights, and the majority of the scenes on the ledge were set to be shot on the real ledge of the Roosevelt Hotel, over 200 feet above 45th Street in midtown Manhattan. Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
