Sunset in the West (1950)

“I’ll have you outta here in no time.” – Splinters

Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 Dec 2018)

Brief Synopsis – Roy Rogers tries to foil a band of gun smugglers who have derailed a train.

My Take on it – I have always heard about the fact that Roy Rogers was a great cowboy actor is lots of Westerns, but until now, I had never seen any of his films.

The premise of this film sounded interesting so I decided o give it a shot and see what it was all about.

They do a great ob keeping things fun throughout and although the storyline is dealing with serious matters, they manage to throw in a lot of jokes and humorous situations to keep the whole thing on the light side instead of being a dark kind of Western.

The story is compelling and we can easily understand what is going on because it’s all kept very straightforward throughout.

Rogers is great in the lead and I’m now quite interested in seeing if some of his other movies are just as enjoyable as this one was.

The plot stays entertaining and engaging throughout and it helps that they manage to add in a few surprises along the way that help keep things enjoyable.

The supporting cast is great and y favorite was the Barber named Splinters who would constantly get the hiccups when he gets nervous.

This especially was a great gag when he was required to give someone a aircut and a shave while in the midst of a hiccup fit.

Bottom Line – Fun action Western that is able to tell a good story while still keeping things light and entertaining. Rogers is great in the lead and I wonder if more of his westerns were as good as this one was. The storyline is straightforward and they manage to keep things interesting throughout especially since they throw us a few nice surprises along the way. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When Roy is being taken from MacKnight’s house by the Kimball brothers his hands are supposed to be tied behind his back but you can see them in front and then hastily pulled behind his back as he rides towards the camera. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
