Genre Guesstimation – Three Identical Strangers (2018)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s Genre has been chosen by Quiggy of The Midnite Drive-In and it is Documentary Films.

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Documentary Films.…

Number of Times Seen – 1 (29 Dec 2018)

Brief Synopsis – True story of a set of triplets separated at birth who find each other after 19 years by accident.

My Take on it – This is a documentary that I only recently heard about and the premise itself was so intriguing that I wanted to see what it was all about.

This is the kind of story that is so hard to actually believe is true until you see how things are played out here.

The story might seem a bit bizarre yet they do a superb job drawing in the viewer to a point where they feel so invested in the story that we want to scream about how absurd this all is to have happened in this manner.

This feels as if it is taken from a science fiction novel yet is amazingly quite true.

They give us some great interviews with so many people connected to the story which helps the information expand on what is known about these events and it draws the viewer in deeper and deeper as things move along.

They expertly use re-enactments of several events in order to help us get a much clearer picture of the absurdity of it all while also giving us the feeling that we are right there next to these characters as things unfold.

The amount of real news clips and interviews shown help raise the stakes of it all more and more as things progress to a point where it actually becomes quite scary that these kind of things actually could occur.

I really hope this film gets a deserving Best Documentary Oscar nomination and I do believe that it is powerful enough to even win depending on the other nominees.

Bottom Line – Amazing documentary that is almost difficult to believe that it’s real because of how bizarre it is yet it does a superb job of drawing the viewer in to this story that feels like it’s taken from a science fiction story. The interviews are great and they manage to give us so much information about this story that makes it more and gripping as things move along. The reenactments used work really well to help us get the feeling as if we are right there with these characters as this happen to them. They expertly use many real clips and interviews to help raise the stakes of the story throughout.  Such an amazingly unbelievable and scary story. Highly Recommended!

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Most definitely! Suc an amazing story that is so hard to believe until you actually see it played out.

Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10)
