For this month’s next review for Genre Grandeur – Documentary Films, here’s a review of Edith and Eddie (2017) – Michael Eddy.

Thanks again to Quiggy of The Midnite Drive-In for choosing this month’s genre.

Next month’s Genre has been chosen by Samantha Ellis of Musing of a Classic Film Addict and it is Romantic Films

“This could include any movie with a romantic pairing as the central focus of the plot, be it a comedy, drama, horror, or what have you.”

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Jan by sending them to romanticsam@movierob.net

Try to think out of the box! Great choice Samantha!

Let’s see what Michael thought of this movie:

______________________________________

My final choice is an Oscar nominee last year for Best Documentary Short – called “Edith & Eddie”. The film makers started out to document the oldest married interracial couple in the US – Edith is black and 96 years old, Eddie is white and 95. They aren’t anything remarkable beyond the fact that they fell in love at such advanced ages and moved in together and are living together on their own, but midway through filming – their story took a real life turn – which the documentary makers – Laura Checkoway and Thomas Lee Wright went with – when one of Edith’s grown daughters decided that the relationship wasn’t right and brought in the authorities to separate them – and the story becomes one of elder abuse. Cher was so impressed by the story that after seeing a cut of the film – she attached herself to it as an Executive Producer to try to get it more widely seen and ultimately it was Oscar nominated.
