Meet The Fockers (2004)

“We use the Focker method. We hugged and kissed that little boy like there was no tomorrow. We Fockerized him.” – Bernie Focker

Number of Times Seen – Twice (29 Apr 2006 and 18 Jan 2019)

Brief Synopsis – As they prepare for their own wedding, Pam and Greg travel with her parents to Florida to visits his parents.

My Take on it – This is a nice sequel which picks up where the previous film left things and moves it along in the right direction.

It’s great to revisit these characters and see what has happened in their lives over the intervening years.

The story stays fresh and doesn’t feel as if it gets repetitious at all which helps make things so enjoyable.

The addition of Barbara Streisand and Dustin Hoffman to the cast works so well because of the way that they present the various eccentricities of their characters who are so very different from the personalities of their counterparts who return – Robert DeNiro and Blythe Danner.

This helps bring the story to a whole new level of misunderstanding and comedy which keeps things so funny the whole way through.

Stiller still is the best character in the story because he knows how to play against the various characters which requires him to keep acting very differently with each interaction based on the personality of each character.

This is a very worthy addition to the series and stays fun and hilarious the whole way through especially when it constantly surprises every so often while still staying true to the original film’s concept.

Bottom Line – This film does a great job of working off the concept of the original film and keeping this so much fun without feeling repetitious. The addition of Streisand and Hoffman brings so much more laughs to this film because of the various eccentricities of their characters who add a whole new level to the story since their personalities and lifestyles are so distant from the ones played by DeNiro and Danner.  The story stays so much fun and is a very worthy addition to the series especially with the way that it keeps the original story moving on the same path. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – James Brolin was originally approached for the role of Bernie, but turned it down. When Director Jay Roach went to approach Dustin Hoffman for the role, Hoffman was talking non-stop, and even out of the point, which made him the instant choice for Bernie. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
