This is my 4936th Review
Original Rating prediction – 8/10
“There are two types of people: those that talk the talk and those that walk the walk. People who walk the walk sometimes talk the talk but most times they don’t talk at all, ’cause they walkin’. Now, people who talk the talk, when it comes time for them to walk the walk, you know what they do? They talk people like me into walkin’ for them.” – Key

Brief Synopsis – A street pimp tries to get his life together and become a hip hop artist despite the world around him constantly trying to push him down.
My Take on it – This is a film that I’ve been interested in seeing for quite a few years but never got around to it until now.
Terence Howard was nominated for an Oscar for his role in this film and I must say that I’m not 100% convinced that this performance is truly an Oscar worthy one even if it is done well.
The premise of the film is intriguing yet the way things are presented just doesn’t work well enough.
The Oscar winning song by Three 6 Mafia is also ok, and 2005 was a pretty weak year for Ori=ginal songs nominated.
The fact that they got Barbara Streisand to announce the winner is sealed in Oscar history tho.
The movie is a bit too long and there are too many scenes that could be trimmed throughout that would have made it easier and more enjoyable to get through.
Bottom Line – Interesting idea that just doesn’t work well enough. Howard does a nice job in the lead but I’m not convinced that he deserved an Oscar nomination for this role. The film has the Oscar winning song by Three 6 Mafia which is also ok, but that year was quite a weak one in the song category. The film is a bit too long and drags too much throughout and has a lot of trouble staying enjoyable from start to finish.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – After winning the Oscar for Best Original Song, host Jon Stewart joked that Three 6 Mafia was ahead of Martin Scorsese in terms of Oscar wins. Scorsese would later win an Oscar for directing The Departed (2006). (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
