Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Feb 2019)
Brief Synopsis – Documentary about a professional rock climber who aspires to undertake the dangerous journey of attempting to climb one of the highest mountains in the world without the use of equipment.
My Take on it – This is a film that I’ve heard so much hype about aver the past few months and was very interested in seeing what it was all about.
This is an extremely powerful film that succeeds in showing the way that someone chooses to live on the edge still finds a way to live his life not just in the moment but also looks ahead to the future.
They film this film really well and they easily make the viewer feel as if they are right there besides the climbers as things are happening.
The climb that is being attempted is quite prestigious yet it is also one of the most dangerous ones possible due to the fact that it is being done without the use of any safety equipment.
The profession depicted here is an extremely deadly one and most of the most talented people who engage in it eventually make a small mistake that leads to their death so they are usually people who want to find a way to tempt fate and believe that they are invincible.
The outlook on life that Alex shows us is definitely an interesting one and gives the viewer the chance to think outside of the box in an attempt to look at the world from a different perspective.
The cinematography is amazing to look at because the view is wondrous in the area depicted and it helps give the viewer a better experience of watching this endeavor take place.
This film definitely was quite deserving of it’s Oscar win for Best Documentary Feature this year!
Bottom Line – Quite a powerful documentary that is able to show the way that someone lives his life on edge yet still finds a way to not only live in the moment. The way that this is filmed is great and it makes the viewer feel as if they are right there beside them during this very dangerous yet prestigious climb.
